Wxyz (born 1980) created Anonymous on spray, a 2021 acrylic painting on wood panel, 50 × 50 cm, hand-signed, original edition, sold with frame, produced in France and offered by Galleria.
Description from the seller
This panel, painted in acrylic, depicts three Anonymous figures on a background of spray-painted graffiti. The work is sold with a beautiful black frame included as a gift, measuring with frame 74 x 74.
Since its debut, Wxyz has focused on the art of signature, calligraphy, and graffiti. When his son was born in 2017, he became interested again in the world of toys. Inspired by children’s building toys, he began creating characters made up of painted wooden blocks. This object represented on this wooden panel, named "L’object A" or "Anonyme," is a character from research conducted with his 3-year-old son using a series of blocks. After directing many characters, he chose this one for its elemental composition and directed a related series.
This object reminds him of many things: the Eiffel Tower, a robot, a rocket, a masked character, technology (the pixel), the ancient figurines of André Hellé, the toy game "Bauspiel: ein Schiff" by Alma Siedhoff-Buscher, Torres García’s "Juguetes."
Wxyz voluntarily created a simple character, a synthesized figure from the childhood games, midway between wooden elements and figurines.
Wxyz was born in Paris in 1980, grew up, and still works today in eastern Paris. He owes his artistic awakening to, from a young age, observing wall inscriptions. Since 1996 he has painted many walls, mainly in the Paris region. For 10 years, and after studying marquetry at the Boulle School (école supérieure d’arts appliqués de Paris), he began making wooden toys. Wxyz has participated in numerous group exhibitions and has held two solo shows in Paris in 2015 and 2020.
