Description from the seller
Jules Gaillepand (1892-1968)
Two Bathers on the Shore of Lake Geneva (Lac Léman) (1927)
Description:
Refined oil on canvas by the Swiss master Jules Gaillepand (1892-1968), dated 1927.
The work offers a splendid genre scene with a refined Modernist and Art Deco taste: two nude female figures rest on the lawn along the lake shore, framed by trees and reeds, with the profile of the Swiss mountains rising in the background. The style blends an academic structure with the figurative currents of the 1920s, showcasing a magnificent handling of the lake light.
The painting bears the artist’s signature and date at the bottom right: "J.Gaillepand 1927".
On the back, the canvas shows the date "1927" repeated in stencil and the original mark impressed on the wood "6 P", which indicates the French Paysage standard format (corresponding to an internal size of 41 x 27 cm).
Also visible on the frame is the historic era stamp of the Geneva art suppliers "Aux Artistes - A. Perrin - Genève", a precious detail that attests to its authenticity and historical rooting in the Geneva area.
Technical details:
Artist: Jules Gaillepand (1892–1968)
Year: 1927
Technique: Oil on canvas
Dimensions of the canvas alone (frame not included): 30 x 41 cm
Overall dimensions (including frame): About 38 x 48 cm
Signature: Signed and dated at the bottom right
Condition: good vintage condition.
The canvas and the paint layer are sound, stable and well preserved, with mild and normal signs of age consistent with a work of almost a century old; two small patches attest to ancient restorations.
The frame, if visible in the photos, is included in the lot as a pure courtesy gift on my part and is not part of the sale, does not determine the value, and due to its delicacy is not insured. Consequently, any defects already present on the frame are not reported and any damage to the frame during transport will not be considered for claims or returns.
Notes on shipping and customs
The item will be shipped from Geneva, Switzerland. For this reason, delivery times to European Union countries may be slightly longer than usual due to standard clearing procedures.
I remind you also that, since Switzerland lies outside the EU customs area, import duties, local VAT and customs duties are the sole responsibility of the buyer and will be collected by the authorities of your country at delivery. I advise you to inform yourself in advance to avoid surprises. Alternatively to shipping, if you have the possibility, personal pickup in Geneva is always the option I prefer and strongly recommend, as it will eliminate shipping costs and ensure maximum security for the work. If shipping is chosen, I will do my best to package it to protect the painting during transit.
