Blue Raku Bird is a hand‑sculpted white ceramic sculpture by Urszula Despet, 21 cm tall, 17 cm wide, 10 cm deep, weighing 1 kg, hand signed, made in Poland in 2026 using the Japanese Raku technique.

Urszula Despet Ceramic Raku Bird Sculpture
Hand sculptured from a white clay ceramic bird is handmade and hand painted and fired using Japanese Raku technique.
The Raku technique is when glazed ceramics are taken from the kiln while they are still glowing red hot and then placed with special tonges in a box with the material that would be able to catch fire. I used sawdust. This starves the piece of oxygen. As a result of the thermal shock are fine crack lines appear all over the surface and turquoise, green and copper shades. This kind of firing creates unique design everythime.

Urszula Despet has been creating artistic ceramics since the early 90s, and since 2007 has been running Despet Ceramika Studio with her husband Grzegorz in Kraków, Poland. The artists create unique handmade objects, decorative items, sculptures and figurines especially animals: horses, bulls, birds, rhinoceros. All works are hand-made and hand painted with colored glazes with glazed goldenbronze elements. Then they are fired at a temperature of 1100 degrees Celsius or with traditional Japanese Raku techniques. Each work is signed. Artists take part in various ceramic festivals, their works are appreciated both in Poland and abroad, and used as decorations in TV commercial, TV series and movies.
