Description from the seller
This contemporary work continues the fascinating formal inquiry into the world of golf, translating the experience of the game into a rigorous geometric and material architecture. The canvas is structured like a jigsaw of rectangular blocks that overlap and converse on a deep black background, redefining space through a grid of strong chromatic contrasts.
The key element of the work lies in its extraordinary material quality. The blocks of color are not simply painted, but “constructed” on the surface: the artist uses thick paint, spreading it with decisive spatters that accumulate material along the edges. These raised cords create clear, three-dimensional boundaries, capable of catching ambient light and generating their own shadows that accentuate the painting’s physicality.
The color palette and the arrangement of the elements forge a rhythmic and balanced visual path:
The Territories of the Green: On the left, two large vertical rectangles in distinct green tones — one darker and woodsy at the top, one brighter and emerald in the center — evoke the expanse of the course. In the upper block stands the iconic red-and-white checkered flag, the geometric milestone that floats within the density of color.
The Pauses of Light: Two blocks of a chalky, luminous white interrupt the dominance of the darker tones. The first, a large horizontal rectangle in the upper-right, acts as a field of pure visual breath. The second, a vertical rectangle in the lower-right corner, hosts the narrative fulcrum of the work.
The Human Presence: Within the lower white block, the artist places the tiny, detailed figure of a golfer seen in profile, intent on studying the ground with his club. The figure, characterized by yellow trousers that add a note of vibrant color, casts a long dark shadow across the white surface, amplifying the sense of isolation, concentration, and the vastness of space.
The work lives in suspended tension: the rigor of geometric forms clashes with the raw energy of spatulated painting, while the almost monumentally vast chromatic blocks provide a counterpoint to the silent solitude of the human figure. A piece of strong visual impact that transforms a sporting moment into an elegant meditation on space, the goal, and waiting.
