Herbert George (1863-1936) - Atmospheric pastoral summer harvest scene with provenance Christie’s
A stunning, classic British landscape painting in watercolor by the renowned artist Herbert George (1863-1936).
This atmospheric artwork depicts an idyllic summer harvest scene (Harvest Time). In the foreground, meticulously arranged sheaves of grain can be seen, between which laborers rest in the shade after the hard work. In the background lies a traditional cottage with a thatched roof, surrounded by lush trees and a broad, rolling landscape under a dynamic Dutch/British cloudscape. George is known for his refined technique and his masterful capture of soft, natural light.
Provenance:
This object has an excellent and fully documented history. On the reverse are the original barcode sticker and the inventory number (NCP 045) from the renowned auction house Christie’s Amsterdam (Auction: Paintings, Watercolours & Drawings, 22 January 2002, at the time sold as Lot 28 with a hammer price of €1,880). A guarantee of authenticity and quality.
Listing and condition:
The work is in very neat, authentic condition with no visible discoloration. It is professionally framed with a multi-layer, luxurious matting featuring a classic gilt border (wash line mount). The whole is encased in a heavy, very richly gilded Baroque-style frame with finely detailed ornamental plasterwork in the corners and edges. The frame shows minimal, age-appropriate wear and is ready to hang.
