Artwork description:
With “Demi Moore” Peter Robert Keil dedicates an expressive portrait to one of Hollywood’s most famous actresses. The work blends the glamour of international cinema with the artist’s unmistakable visual language and strikingly shows his engagement with prominent figures of pop culture.
The figure appears frontal and confident. The light face and the almost white body stand in a tense contrast to the deep black background. Bright red lips and the distinctive red necklace form the visual focal points of the image, while the blue eyes establish direct eye contact with the viewer.
The curly yellow-green hair gives the composition dynamism and movement. With a few powerful black lines Keil reduces the figure to the essential and yet achieves an extraordinary expressiveness. The monumental portrayal conveys strength, elegance, and presence — qualities that have shaped Demi Moore’s public perception over decades.
The composition exudes joie de vivre, directness, and artistic immediacy — a homage to color itself and an optimistic statement for any collection.
His artistically gifted mother struggled with her son in the final phase of the war as they moved to West Berlin, where the two settled after the war. There Keil grew up in the working-class neighborhood of Berlin-Wedding and soon discovered his love for painting — particularly for expressionist artists as well as the works of Pablo Picasso. The painter Otto Nagel, from East Berlin, became his mentor from around 1954 and taught him early craft skills and painting techniques.
