Description from the seller
Bohemian Flash Ruby Glass Souvenir Mug "Amélie" – Hand Enamelled & Gilt – c. 1880–1910
A charming Bohemian flash ruby glass souvenir mug, dating from the late 19th to the early 20th century (circa 1880–1910).
The mug is made from clear glass overlaid with a rich ruby flash, acid-etched to reveal delicate translucent floral motifs and beautifully enhanced with hand-painted red enamels and fine gilt decoration.
The central cartouche bears the name "Amélie" in elegant gilt script, indicating that the piece was most likely commissioned as a personal gift or souvenir. Such personalised mugs were particularly fashionable throughout Central Europe during the late Victorian and Belle Époque periods.
The decoration features richly stylised birds, scrolling foliage and floral ornament, executed in a refined Art Nouveau-inspired style while retaining elements of earlier Bohemian decorative traditions.
The base is polished with visible manufacturing characteristics, including small air bubbles naturally formed during production, confirming its handcrafted manufacture.
A decorative and collectible example of late 19th-century Bohemian art glass.
Height: 10cm
Dimension: 11x7.0cm
Condition
Good antique condition.
The decoration remains bright and attractive, with expected age-related wear. There is minor rubbing to the gilding and some wear to the ruby flash around the rim, together with light scratches and manufacturing bubbles consistent with age and traditional glassmaking techniques.
Please study the photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the description.
