Atmospheric Painting "Kermesse 38" – André Dendal. Belgium 1938
Colorful oil painting by the Belgian artist André Dendal, dated 1938. The work offers a fascinating look at a bustling fair or annual market, captured from a unique aerial perspective.
Characteristics of the artwork:
• Artist: André Dendal (bottom-right signed "a. Dendal" and dated '38
• Title: Kermesse 38 (titled on the back)
• Year: 1938.
• Style & Technique: Post-impressionist / early modernist with a beautiful, subtle color palette of soft grays, greens and blues, combined with vivid red and yellow accents that perfectly convey the dynamism of the folk festival.
• Depiction: An animated city square filled with market stalls, festival tents and strolling figures, surrounded by characteristic urban architecture.
