Description from the seller
Christ Pantocrator – Byzantine Icon
Greek icon in mixed technique after a Sinai model from the 16th century.
1. Summary
The present icon shows Christ Pantocrator in the classic Byzantine type. The attached certificate identifies it as a high-quality copy of a Sinai model from the 16th century.
2. Iconography
Christ blesses with his right hand and holds the Gospel book with his left. IC XC denotes Jesus Christ. The nimbus with the omega signifies Christ as the Eternal One.
3. Stylistic analysis
The face is constructed with strict symmetry. Light is indicated by fine pale hatchings. Garments and hair follow the Byzantine tradition.
4. Material and technique
Wooden panel. The artificial craquelés serve solely to simulate historical appearance.

The certificate explicitly confirms a copy of a Byzantine model (Sinai 16th century) by specialized icon painters.
6. Dating
Probably created between 1990 and 2005 in a Greek workshop.
7. Condition
Very good condition. The visible cracks are largely deliberately produced aging effects.

The Pantocrator is one of the central image types of Orthodox art and goes back to early Byzantine times.
10. Final assessment
High-quality workshop icon with liturgical character and good collector value.
