About the artist:
Stelios Pupet (born in 1983), known as Pupet, is a Greek contemporary visual artist who lives and works in Athens. A graduate of the Athens School of Fine Arts, he has established himself as an important figure on the national and international art scene thanks to a practice that combines traditional techniques and digital processes.
Originating from urban culture and graffiti, Pupet has progressively developed a personal visual language, where figuration occupies a central place. His work explores themes such as identity, memory, and perception of reality, inviting the viewer to reflect on the human condition and the contemporary world. Paintings, installations, and urban interventions make up a coherent body of work, marked by a distinctive aesthetic and a subtle use of color and structure.
For several years, the notion of the grid has become a fundamental element of his creative process. Initially appearing during digital experiments intended to be transposed into screen printing, the grid gradually established itself as a conceptual and formal tool. Far from a rigid framework, it acts as a guide, structuring the image while leaving room for intuition and chance. This tension between geometric construction, minimalism, and pictorial expressivity gives rise to dynamic compositions where tradition and innovation constantly dialogue.
His work stands out for a mastered fusion between academic painting, contemporary visual culture, and digital technologies. The figures he stages, often fragmented or reinterpretized through the grid, seem to move between materiality and dematerialization, between constructed image and deconstructed image. This constant search for new modes of expression bears witness to a demanding experimental approach.
Exhibited in Greece and abroad, Pupet continues a rapidly evolving artistic trajectory, consolidating his place among the most unique contemporary Greek artists of his generation. His work, at the crossroads of figurative and conceptual, is part of a current reflection on image, its reproduction, and its transformation in the digital age.
