Artist Profile
(born 1931), whose real name is Takao Iijima, is one of Japan’s leading postwar avant-garde artists and an internationally recognized member of the Fluxus movement. Famous for his signature rainbow imagery, he represented Japan at the 1966 Venice Biennale and has exhibited extensively throughout Europe, the United States, and Japan. His works are included in major museum collections including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
This original silkscreen print titled “Tweeting B” (囀り B) was created in 1982 by the internationally acclaimed Japanese avant-garde artist 靉嘔 Ay-O.
The composition features 靉嘔 Ay-O’s iconic rainbow spectrum expressed through a stylized bird soaring across a geometric background. Known worldwide as the “Rainbow Artist,” 靉嘔 Ay-O developed this distinctive visual language through his involvement with the international Fluxus movement, combining vivid color gradations with playful symbolism and optical rhythm.
