Description from the seller

An elegant English sterling silver mounted glass vanity jar by William Henry Walshe, hallmarked Birmingham, 1899. Standing 10 cm in height, the jar is fitted with a finely engraved sterling silver hinged lid, richly decorated with floral and foliate motifs surrounding a vacant central cartouche. The clear moulded glass body complements the quality of the silver mount, creating a refined example of late Victorian dressing table ware.
The silver bears clear Birmingham hallmarks together with the maker's mark of William Henry Walshe, one of Birmingham's respected late Victorian silversmiths. Both the silver and glass are well preserved, with crisp engraving and an attractive overall appearance. Combining decorative appeal, practicality and quality craftsmanship, this is a desirable collector's piece from the closing years of the Victorian era, ideal for collections of English silver, vanity ware or antique dressing table accessories.
