Description from the seller
Giuseppe Casciaro (1861–1941), Italian artist
Bagnoli, 1911
Original pastel on cardboard depicting a view of the Bagnoli area, Naples.
Technique: pastel on cardboard.
Dimensions of the work: 19.5 × 38 cm.
Frame: present, period; the overall dimensions can be indicated separately in the related Catawiki field.
The work is signed, located, and dated at the bottom left. The inscription reads as:
“Casciaro / Bagnoli / 27 … 911”, referring to the year 1911.
On the reverse there is the artist’s stamp “G. CASCIARO / NAPOLI”.
Also on the back is preserved a historic label of Chev. Alex. D’Atri & Sons – Ancient & Modern Art Gallery, Rome, Piazza di Spagna. Piazza di Spagna, an element of interest for collecting history and provenance of the work.
Provenance: previously handled by a prestigious Italian auction house.
The work is generally in good condition considering its age. Normal signs of time are present on the frame and the back, consistent with a paper work from the early years of the 20th century. The pastel retains good color readability and compositional clarity. The photographs accurately show the condition and are an integral part of the description.
The pastel represents one of the most characteristic techniques of Giuseppe Casciaro’s production, particularly appreciated for landscapes and views of Southern Italy.
The work will be shipped framed, with careful packing and tracked shipping.
