Description from the seller
August Vandecasteele
Heule, 1889 - Kortrijk, 1969
Painter August Vandecasteele died on 5 October. He had, with a few months to spare, reached the eighty-year mark. Despite that advanced age and despite the heart condition and no less merciless arteriosclerosis, which had for a considerable time urged him to maintain meticulous caution and had noticeably slowed his artistic activity, in his very latest works hardly any signs of senile decay can be detected.
Not only in his homeland
but also far beyond it, he was regarded as a truly gifted and conscientious artist with a very sympathetic reputation: no wonder that he is represented in countless private collections and even in a few museums (Kortrijk, Harelbeke, Zottegem) with canvases. As early as 1929, one of his works was also purchased by the Ministry of Arts and Sciences. As a painter and draftsman he is, despite his striking specific technique, not an innovator and not a high-flyer.
Frame 102x88 cm
Without frame 85x70 cm
Very beautiful painting, see photos
