This drawing constitutes a precious testimony of the friendship that united Wifredo Lam to Adam Biro, publisher, writer and French art historian. Founder of Adam Biro Editions, specialized in art books, he maintained privileged links with many major artists of the 20th century. This work, personally offered by Lam, thus benefits from an excellent provenance.
Born in Cuba in 1902, Wifredo Lam (1902-1982) is one of the major figures of 20th-century art. A friend of Pablo Picasso and close to André Breton, he developed a unique artistic language, blending Cubism, Surrealism and Afro-Cuban heritage. His works are today housed in the most prestigious international collections, notably at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, at the Centre Pompidou, at the Tate and at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. His influence and the numerous exhibitions dedicated to him in the world’s leading museums attest to his place among the indispensable artists of modern art.
