Description from the seller

Oil on canvas, abstract signed Xaime Quesada Porto (1933)

Xaime Quesada Porto, artistically known as Xaime Quessada, born in Ourense (Spain) on July 14, 1937 and died in Vilar de Astrés on December 30, 2007, was a Galician painter, sculptor, and writer. He is the brother of the draftsman Fernando Quesada.

Artistic career
He graduated from the School of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid. In the fifties, he frequented the group of Ourense artists who met at Café Volter, called Os Artistiñas by Vicente Risco (trained by Arturo Baltar, Xavier Pousa, Virxilio, Xosé Luís de Dios, Acisclo Manzano and Buciños). He won the gold medal at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in 1959. He settled in Paris in 1962, then in the United States, where he worked in the 1980s for UNESCO as an artist on a project about Don Quixote.

Dorna, 2001, in Pontevedra.
His works include references to mythological subjects, very colorful naturalistic figures, and withered bodies. The motifs and paintings inspired by Goya (such as his Black Series) and even more by Picasso are constant, with many versions of Guernica and the Minotaur.

Exhibitions and works
His large mural paintings and canvases are present in many European art galleries, such as the National Museum of Modern Art in Mexico, the Galician People’s Museum, or the Havana Museum. He also has works such as the ceilings of the Teatro Principal of Ourense, the Galician Parliament, and various public sculptures in the cities of Pontevedra and Ourense.

He also created sets and costumes for theatrical productions, as well as various illustrations for books.
