Description from the seller
Title: The Farm
School: European Impressionist (19th Century)
Style: Impressionism
Technique: Oil on canvas.
Circle and artistic influence:
Work belonging to the European late 19th-century landscape painting with clear influences from the Barbizon School and French luminism. The composition reflects the interest in atmospheric representation of the landscape and the changing effects of natural light, showing affinities with artists who evolved from realism toward a more intimate and contemplative impressionism.
The work depicts a tranquil rural scene featuring a farmstead or country house at the end of a dirt road that guides the viewer’s gaze toward the main architecture. The building, with simple lines and a clear façade, is framed by an extensive mass of trees that dominates the composition, where large trees cast broad shadows over the road, creating an interesting play of light and contrasts.
The sky, covered by clouds in gray and bluish tones with soft pinkish hues, provides depth and a serene atmosphere that envelops the entire scene. The brushwork, loose and expressive, concentrates especially on the treatment of the foliage and the luministic variations of the landscape, characteristic traits of the Impressionist language. The composition conveys calm and balance, evoking the everyday beauty of the European rural environment during the 19th century.
Observations:
