Medsan, Kanagawa Fuji Hourglass (時の砂の波) – UNIQUE WORK, a 40 × 40 cm giclée mounted on a wooden frame, hand-signed, edition 1/1, dated 2026 in France, a Pop Art depiction of Kanagawa within an hourglass in excellent condition and sold directly by the artist.
Description from the seller
THERE IS ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format work, Medsan traps Hokusai's The Great Wave off Kanagawa in an hourglass, in the manner of a Japanese ink wash (sumi-e). In the upper bulb, the famous blue wave surges; as the sand flows, it becomes grains and then reforms at the bottom into a serene Mount Fuji. The whole piece is painted with ink and watercolors on textured antique paper. The cartouche bears the signature “メドサン” (Medsan).
The visual force of the composition lies in its delicate ink-and-wash treatment: vivid black lines of the hourglass, bluish transparencies of the wave and the mountain, splashes and white reserves evoking the spontaneity of traditional Japanese painting. The limited palette confers on the whole an elegant simplicity.
The artwork’s impact comes from the poetry of passing time: the impetuous wave that, grain by grain, becomes an immutable mountain — a metaphor for perpetual motion and impermanence (mono no aware). Medsan transforms Hokusai’s masterpiece into a visual meditation on time and the cycle of things.
A poetic, pared-down piece, deeply symbolic, ideal for adding a zen, contemplative, and decidedly original touch to a design and collector interior — a favorite among lovers of Japanese art as well as symbolism.

About the Atelier:
Atelier Joconde is a studio bringing together artists around a living, plural contemporary creation. Set up as a true site of artistic production, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. At his side, Medsan, focused on pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive research, blending abstract art, outsider art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, realized, and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and an identity of its own for each artist.
