Clinging to the Art Deco skyscraper, fist raised toward the biplanes that swarm around him, the behemoth roars beneath a stormy sky jagged by lightning, as the crowd stirs below. The cartouche bears the signature « メドサン » (Medsan).

The visual power of the composition lies in its perfect imitation of a 19th-century wood engraving: tight hatching, stark black and white contrasts, lightning and beams of light worked with a burin, a dramatic sky worthy of Doré’s illustrations.
