Description from the seller
ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1
With this vertical-format work, Medsan makes Laputa, the flying island from Hayao Miyazaki's Castle in the Sky (Studio Ghibli), float above Hokusai's The Great Wave off Kanagawa. A citadel crowned by a great tree and suspended from its rocky roots drifts in a rosy sky, while the blue surf unfurls its crests below and Mount Fuji points on the horizon. The cartouche bears the signature « メドサン » (Medsan).
The visual force of the composition lies in its ukiyo-e print language: flat indigo blues, clear outlines, foaming claws, and a decorative border, all in the soft palette of an old poster. The celestial island, rendered with meticulous illustration, harmonizes perfectly with the Hokusai masterwork that welcomes it.
The impact of the piece comes from the poetry of this encounter: Miyazaki's dream of flight hovering above the most famous wave, two Japanese imaginations united in a single image of escape. Medsan unites contemporary animation and the immortal print in a contemplative and magical composition.
A poetic, iconic and spectacular piece, ideal for adding a pop, retro and decidedly original touch to a collector's interior — a favorite for fans of Japanese animation as well as classical prints.

About the Atelier:
Atelier Joconde is a studio of artists gathered around a living and plural contemporary creation. Installed as a true site of artistic production, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realist influences. Beside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo follows a more instinctive search, blending abstract art, outsider art and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, created and supervised within the workshop, with a shared artistic standard and an identity unique to each artist.
