With this vertically formatted work, Medsan revisits American Gothic, the famous painting by Grant Wood, by placing Master Yoda and Darth Vader, the two antagonists of Star Wars. In front of the house with the Gothic window, Vader holds the farmer's pitchfork while Yoda, draped in his Jedi robe, grips a slotted spoon as an accessory, both frozen in the austere, frontal pose of the original. The cartouche bears the signature “メドサン” (Medsan).

The visual power of the composition lies in its faithful imitation of Grant Wood’s American Regionalism: smooth, meticulous finish, sober palette, white-frame house, pale sky. The détournement works all the better because the solemn rigidity of the characters splendidly matches the reserved seriousness of the 1930 painting.

The impact of the work comes from the humor of the contrast: the galactic mysticism of Star Wars transposed into rural, puritan America, the father and the master united in a pair of impassive farmers.
