Description from the seller
THERE IS ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1
With this vertically formatted work, Medsan makes Astro Boy — Osamu Tezuka’s pioneering manga robot — soar above terraced rice fields, in the manner of an old ukiyo-e print. Propelled by his thrusters, the boy-robot in a red suit skimps just above the water where the sunset reflects and his own flight, while peasants transplant rice and cranes cross the sky. The cartouche bears the signature “メドサン” (Medsan).
The visual force of the composition lies in its language of traditional prints: clean ink line, hot dusk flat tones, a large red sun, stylized cranes and ornamental border, all on a grain of aged paper. The hero from early anime integrates gracefully into the timeless rural setting of old Japan.
The impact of the work rests on the nostalgic sweetness of the scene: the first robot-star of Japanese animation flying over ancestral rice paddies, a symbol of a country between tradition and modernity. Medsan pays homage to the father of manga by uniting his most iconic creation with the classic imagery of ukiyo-e.
A poetic, luminous, and decidedly original piece, ideal for bringing a pop, retro, contemplative touch to a collector’s interior — a favorite among manga fans and lovers of Japanese prints alike.

About the Workshop:
Atelier Joconde is a workshop of artists gathered around a vibrant, plural contemporary creation. Set up like a genuine art production space, the studio operates both in collective creation and individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family adventure. Le Yack, contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. Beside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo is engaged in a more instinctive search, blending abstract art, Outsider art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, produced, and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and an identity unique to each artist.
