Intuition and Abstraction
Manuela Decker (born 1973) is a contemporary German painter who lives and works in Osnabrück. As a self-taught artist, she has developed an unconventional, deeply emotional visual language that moves freely beyond academic constraints. Under the studio name Gallery M, she presents her works to an international audience.
Artistic profile & style
Decker’s works are linked to abstract expressionism and modern informal art. At the center of her practice is the process of letting go. Her large-format acrylic paintings often arise impulsively and intuitively—guided by moments, moods, and the dynamics of color itself.
Technique:
She prefers working with acrylic paints, chalks, and texturing mixed media on canvas. The application of color is layered, sometimes strongly applied with a spatula, sometimes softly brushed or glazed. This gives her images a tactile depth. Contrasts: a recurring motif is the play of extreme opposites. In series such as “Better in black,” she contrasts deep, dark areas with sudden, luminous color explosions or minimalist lines. Imperfection and rawness are deliberately staged as aesthetic elements.
Philosophy and intention:
For Manuela Decker, art is a vent for the unsayable. She does not want to force a fixed interpretation on the viewer, but to provide space for one’s own associations and feelings. Her art seeks dialogue with the subconscious. She also shares this integrative, liberating approach as a creativity coach, helping people overcome blockages through intuitive painting and discover their own inner visual world.
