A mazarinade is a political pamphlet published during the Fronde (1648-1653), mainly against Cardinal Mazarin, the chief minister to the regent Anne of Austria during Louis XIV’s minority.

Collection of several mazarinades printed originally during the Fronde (1648-1653), among which Le Mazarin portant la botte, the Triolets du prince de Condé, L’Eschelle des partisans, L’Achat de Mazarin, and an Apology for the defense of Cardinal Mazarin.

These texts, composed in burlesque verse or in satirical form, illustrate the political confrontations sparked by the ministry of Cardinal Mazarin. They resort to caricature, parody, and humor to denounce or defend the chief minister of the young Louis XIV.
