Two-item lot featuring a heavy bronze/messing mortar dating to ca. 1880–1890 with pestle and a hand-forged cast-iron table candle holder dating to ca. 1950–60 from Germany.

1, Historical utilitarian object:
ca.1880-1890 /Germany

Classic, heavy cast mortar made of solid bronze or heavy brass, complete with accompanying pestle (pistil). The vessel features a thick-walled, sturdy form and is equipped with a practical pouring lip (snout).
Such mortars were traditionally used in pharmacies or in upscale households for grinding spices and herbs.
A beautiful antique and a real eye-catcher.
Condition: Age-appropriate, very good condition. The metal shows an authentic, developed patina and minimal signs of use on the inner surface.

2. Hand-forged table candlestick made of heavy wrought iron.

The piece impresses with its handcrafted production in pronounced hammer-mark appearance on the broad, bowl-shaped base, which also serves as a wax catcher. The organically shaped candle socket reminds of a closed flower bud.
A timeless classic of German handicraft from the mid-20th century (Mid-Century Modern / Brutalism)
On the underside with a stamped wrought mark/artist signature.
Two crossed lines or a stylized "X" / "M".
Condition: Very good, stable condition with a beautiful dark wrought patina.
