18th-century edition (1764) in two complete volumes of the famous work "Jerusalem Delivered" by Torquato Tasso, printed outside Italy (Nîmes and Avignon) entirely in Italian. Work enriched by historical and critical observations by Niccolò Cianculo and Scipio Gentili, containing in the appendix the full chapters rejected by the author. Illustrations: Frontispiece with a copper engraving portrait of Torquato Tasso by C. Nolli from a design by Cremona. Friezes and wood-engraved initials at the beginning of each canto.
Binding: Full eighteenth-century leather binding with 5 raised bands on the spine, dark inlays and titles stamped in gold. Page edges entirely colored in period brick red.
Conditions: Solid exemplar; internal text in excellent state of preservation, period binding well bound with widespread abrasions to the boards, sharp corner edges partially worn and small losses of leather at the upper and lower tips of the spines. On the title pages there are fascinating period inked ownership notes dated 1779.
