2018 Josmeyer "Icare" - Alsace - 6 Bottles (0.75L)

At Josmeyer, biodynamics is cultivated.
Located in the heart of Alsace, near Colmar, the vineyard covers 24.40 hectares.
It comprises 90 parcels situated on flat-ground terroirs (Wintzenheim, Turckheim and Wettolsheim) and on slopes including the Grand Crus Hengst (marno-calcareous terroir) and Brand (granite terroir).
The entire estate has been farmed biologically and biodynamically since 2000 and certified since 2004.
To better understand the scope of this philosophy, it is important to return to the origins of this word.
The term “biodynamics” arose from the combination of two Greek words:
Βίος which expresses life, living in its broadest sense.
Δύναμις which means strength, power.
Thus, for over twenty years, the Estate has sought to understand, respect, and stimulate, in a completely natural way, the life forces of the vines, but also to increase the symbiosis and synergy that each plant maintains with the living world around it, whether Earth, Humans, or Sky.
A living and balanced soil is essential for the vine to flourish harmoniously and to adapt as well as possible to climate changes.

Icare 2018: The grapes come from a selection of the best plots of old vines on gravels and on the marno-calcareous terroir of Grand Cru Hengst.
After a 24-hour maceration, the grapes were pressed whole. Two century-old oak foudres housed the must during fermentation, each evolving according to its own desires, each following its own path.
The first benefited from a élevage on fine lees; its brother from élevage on total lees.
The union of the two foudres gave birth to ICARE.
