Fragility I marks the point of entry into Dana Vasile’s ongoing series dedicated to the fragility of identity. Rather than presenting a portrait, the painting explores the moment when the unity of the self begins to fracture, revealing identity as a shifting psychological landscape rather than a fixed condition.

Two intertwined faces emerge from a dark, undefined space, resisting complete separation. They appear caught between fusion and dissolution, as though one consciousness were attempting to divide into multiple selves. Their closeness suggests intimacy, yet their expressions reveal distance, uncertainty and silent tension. The composition invites the viewer into an intimate psychological territory where identity exists as a continuous negotiation rather than a stable fact.

Fragility is understood here not as weakness, but as a condition of exposure.

Executed in richly layered oil paint, the surface oscillates between controlled construction and expressive freedom. Luminous passages of crimson, emerald, cobalt and ochre animate the intertwined forms, while the surrounding darkness reinforces their psychological isolation.


Dana Vasile is a Romanian visual artist born, living and working in Bucharest. Her artistic practice investigates identity as a fragile and unstable construct through contemporary figurative painting, bringing together fragmentation, psychological deformation and symbolic transformation. She is currently completing her studies at the Painting Department of the National University of Arts in Bucharest (UNArte). Her artistic development also includes a 4 month scholarship at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma, alongside participation in exhibitions in Romania and internationally, including Madrid, Genoa and Balchik.
