Fragility III brings Dana Vasile’s investigation of identity to its point of greatest instability. A single portrait unfolds into multiple simultaneous faces, each proposing a different emotional reality while refusing to become the definitive self. Identity is no longer fragmented; it exists as a continuous state of multiplicity.
Rather than illustrating psychological division, the painting suggests that the self is inherently plural. Memory, perception and emotion overlap, producing a portrait that cannot be resolved into a single image. Every face remains incomplete, dependent on the others for its existence.

Executed in layered oil paint, the work combines structural precision with expressive gesture. A restrained palette of muted violets and greys frames luminous passages of flesh tones, allowing colour to articulate shifts in consciousness rather than physical form. The result is a portrait suspended between figuration and dissolution, where vulnerability becomes the condition through which identity continually transforms.


Dana Vasile is a Romanian visual artist born, living and working in Bucharest. Her practice investigates identity as a fragile and unstable construct through contemporary figurative painting, bringing together fragmentation, psychological deformation and symbolic transformation. She is currently completing her studies at the Painting Department of the National University of Arts in Bucharest. Her artistic development also includes an 4-month scholarship at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma, alongside participation in exhibitions in Romania and internationally, including Madrid, Genoa and Balchik.
