Description from the seller
Marcel Proust – In Search of Lost Time – 8 volumes in half-calf – NRF/Gallimard – 1920-1927
Very beautiful old set uniting the eight numbered volumes I to VIII of Marcel Proust’s monumental work, In Search of Lost Time.
These volumes were published in Paris by Éditions de la Nouvelle Revue Française, then by Librairie Gallimard, during the 1920s.
1. Du côté de chez Swann – bearing “forty-eighth edition”
2. À l’ombre des jeunes filles en fleurs – bearing “thirty-fourth edition” – 1920
3. Le Côté de Guermantes I – bearing “thirty-fifth edition”
4. Le Côté de Guermantes II – Sodome et Gomorrhe I – bearing “twenty-fifth edition” – 1921
5. Sodome et Gomorrhe II – bearing “forty-fifth edition” – 1924
6. La Prisonnière (Sodome et Gomorrhe III) – bearing “eighteenth edition” – 1923
7. Albertine disparue – bearing “thirty-first edition”
8. Le Temps retrouvé – bearing “twelfth edition”
The set allows one to traverse the entire proustian cycle, from Du côté de chez Swann to Le Temps retrouvé.
Elegant uniform half-calf morocco bindings, with:
– spine with raised bands ;
– dark lettering pieces and volume numbers ;
– author’s name, titles and numbering gilt;
– boards covered with marbled paper in green tones.
Beautiful decorative condition for century-old volumes.
The bindings show a natural patina, rubbing, scratches, surface cracks and wear from use. The gilding remains legible.
The interiors show natural paper yellowing, foxing and some small stains. A few creases and minor defects are visible.
Some old unidentified handwritten notes as well as small marks appear on some title pages. They are neither authenticated nor attributed to Marcel Proust.
The photographs are an integral part of the description and allow a precise appreciation of the condition of the different volumes.
The eight volumes will be protected individually, carefully padded and shipped in a reinforced package, with tracking.
