Brigante is a Neo-Impressionist oil painting from Italy, dated 1950–1960, by Carlo Borri (1952), measuring 24 x 17 cm, signed by hand, in the original edition and depicting a full‑length figure in traditional southern Italian dress.
Description from the seller
Carli Borri, born in 1952, a self-taught artist inspired by the Neapolitan masters of the 1800s, his paintings are already part of private collections and of gallerists.
Signed by hand at the bottom left.
The work stands apart from traditional portraits, depicting a full-length popular figure in traditional southern Italian dress. The body and volumes are structured for sharp contrasts of color and juxtaposition of light and shadow, without recourse to preparatory drawing. The effective chiaroscuro rendering of the long dark cloak that frames the figure stands out, contrasting with the brightness of the light background.
A sketch with excellent freshness of execution, characterized by a solid compositional setup and a happy narrative immediacy.
