Superb monocular microscope E. Leitz Wetzlar, manufactured in Germany at the beginning of the 20th century, preserved in its original ebony case with lock. This is a remarkable antique scientific set, assembled over its use with optics from several of the Europe’s leading laboratory equipment manufacturers.

* Original ebony case with compartments.
* Abbe condenser with iris diaphragm.
* Mechanical stage with micrometric movements.
* 10 old objectives:
* 4 E. Leitz Wetzlar objectives
* 5 M. Stiassnie Paris objectives
* 1 Carl Zeiss Jena objective
* 7 old eyepieces from various manufacturers (Leitz, Nachet, Carl Zeiss Jena and other period models).
* 2 old histological blades, including one dated 1907 with handwritten annotation.

Condition and operation

The microscope has undergone a functional check.

The mechanical movements are smooth, coarse and fine focusing operate correctly, the nosepiece index is normal, and the condenser with diaphragm is operational.

The objectives have been tested on microscopic preparations. After using an appropriate slide, the tested objectives produce an image. The optics appear clean, with no visible fungus or fogging upon inspection.

Several photographs taken directly through the eyepiece are included in this sale to illustrate the tests performed and the optical quality observed.

The brass, the black lacquer, and the ebony case show a beautiful original patina, perfectly coherent with the instrument’s age.

This microscope constitutes a very beautiful antique scientific ensemble, bringing together elements from E. Leitz Wetzlar, M. Stiassnie Paris, and Carl Zeiss Jena—three major names in the history of optics.
