Description from the seller

Pierre Razafindrafara – Village Scene in Madagascar

Oil on canvas depicting a scene of daily life in a traditional Malagasy village.

The work shows an animation characteristic of Madagascar's villages: stilt houses with thatched green roofs, inhabitants busy with their everyday activities, transport of harvests, domestic animals, and tropical vegetation. The composition, very narrative, reproduces with simplicity and freshness the warm atmosphere of rural Malagasy life.

The luminous palette, dominated by ochres, browns, and greens, as well as the naïve treatment of the figures, bring this painting closer to the popular Malagasy school developed during the second half of the 20th century.

The work is signed at the bottom right Pierre Razafindrafara.
