Description from the seller
Hand-Blown Glass Wine Decanter in Wrought Iron Cage.Italy or Austria, Mid-20th Century
This is a striking mid-century wine decanter combining hand-blown soft sea-green glass . The pale green tone is consistent with unrefined or lightly tinted soda-lime glass. The bulbous glass body sits within a wrought-iron surround decorated with scrolling vines.
The surround is hand-forged wrought iron, obviously made for each other as the surround and glass sit in perfect harmony, is built from scrolled wire and flat strap iron, with applied cast or pressed grape-and-vine motifs decorating the oval and circular openings. The crosshatched wirework on the spout and the coiled iron collar at the neck are consistent with mid-century decorative ironwork. The glass and ironwork are in perfect condition with no rust or chips. PLEASE NOTE: There is decoration on the ironwork light tint as if the leaves are turning brown, it is not rust.
