Truly stunning antique small dog statue made of bronze in France between 1880 and 1920 (Late Victorian or Art Nouveau period). The bottom reveals a gypsum- or cement-fill. This was a commonly used technique at the time to give hollow-cast bronze desk accessories, such as presse-papiers, bookends, or statues, extra weight and stability. The details are sublime and the design is beautiful. Real craftsmanship.
