Statue, Beeld zittende Duitse dog - 9.3 cm - Spelter

Splendid image of a seated dog, probably a German Shepherd, made from a zinc alloy at the beginning of the 20th century. The figurine dates from the Art Deco period, specifically between 1920 and 1930. The sleek, streamlined musculature of the dog and the geometric, rectangular marble base are obvious stylistic features of that decade. The age is further confirmed by the type of threading and the natural wear (oxidation) on the inside of the cast piece. As clearly shown in the photos, the statue is very well secured to the pedestal, but there is some play in the front paws.
