Sonia Abeloos (1876–1969) – Boat in the Harbor Channel
Atmospheric maritime painting by the Belgian artist Sonia Abeloos (1876–1969), depicting a boat in a harbor channel. The work is executed in oil on a wooden panel and signed “S. Abeloos”.
Sonia Abeloos was a Belgian artist, known for her landscapes, coastal and harbor scenes, seascapes, interiors and portraits. Her maritime works reflect her interest in the Belgian coast, harbors and life at the water.
Sonia Abeloos (Brussels, 1876–1969) was a Belgian artist, trained at the Academy of Brussels, where she studied among others with Isidore Verheyden and Guillaume Van Strydonck. She painted landscapes, seascapes, harbor and beach scenes, interiors, portraits and still lifes. Abeloos exhibited in Belgium and internationally and was a member of the Brussels Cercle Artistique et Littéraire. Her atmospheric coast and harbor views form a recognizable part of her oeuvre. Works by her are housed, among others, in the collection of the Museum of Ixelles.
This painting was previously offered under the title Boat in the harbor channel and originates from Bernaerts Auction House, Antwerp.
