Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Nantan iron meteorite, a meteorite of iron from Guangxi, China, weighing 1250 g with supplement Tipo IAB-MG.
Description from the seller
Observed fall in 1516, although the pieces were recovered starting in 1958, when they were melted down to be used in China’s growing industrialization.
It is shipped with the display case.
The meteorite exploded during its passage through the atmosphere and the fragments were scattered in an elliptical dispersion of 28 kilometers long and 8 kilometers wide.
A metallic meteorite is composed mainly of iron and nickel. In fact, it is a piece of the asteroid’s core. In the differentiation process, when the asteroid is a molten ball during its formation, iron and nickel settle to the center of the asteroid, since they are the heaviest elements. After cooling, the metallic core of the asteroid is formed. Through catastrophic collisions, the asteroid and its core break apart and those fragments remain in space until some piece falls to our planet. It is estimated that they represent 5.7% of falls.
At Expometeoritos, we handle outreach, talks, workshops, analyses, classification and exhibitions of meteorites.
We are members of:
.- IMCA (International Meteorite Collectors Association) #8187
.- Meteoritical Society
.- American Meteor Society
All of our pieces are certified and, moreover, we provide the chemical composition analysis if the piece’s value exceeds €300, performed at our facilities by X-ray spectroscopy.
