Oil painting on canvas titled Heideven in avondgloed, dating from the 1960s, by Joop Smits (Netherlands), an original hand-signed work sold with its frame.
Description from the seller
Oil painting on canvas,
A Landscape with Heather in Evening Glow.
Painted by the artist Joop Smits.
The artist Joop Smits was born in the Netherlands in the city of Eindhoven and in 1961 pursued his training at the Academy of Art in his birthplace. From a young age drawing and painting were his great passions. In 1992 he built a studio in Ireland and in 2002 another in Mallorca, where he has lived permanently since 2008.
The artist often worked seven days a week; he seemed almost fused with his canvases. This many hours of solitary, driven work appears to recur in the tranquil, secluded, unvisited and unspoiled expansive landscapes, including the lake district series (vennetjesserie).
In Mallorca he reveals a quite different side; here we see urban impressions created with colorful condensed, substantial and dispersed brushstrokes. A carnival of sparkling, uplifting, idyllic village scenes, markets, coves and floral still lifes where the sunlight seems palpable through the colors.
The work is generally in good condition and signed in the lower left.
The work comes in a matching frame.
Canvas size is 50 by 70 cm.
The work will be carefully packed and shipped.
