Description from the seller

Silent North

Series: Travel

"Every journey leaves a trace. Some cross the land, others cross silence."

This artwork belongs to Travel, an ongoing series by Sonny Insinna in which animals become the guardians of hope. Forced to abandon their natural habitats because of the destruction caused by humankind, they embark on symbolic journeys in search of a place where life, freedom, and harmony can still endure.

In Silent North, a majestic polar bear rises from the icy waters while a raven rests gently upon its head. This is not a gesture of dominance, but one of trust and companionship. Together, they move toward an unseen horizon, carrying the weight of memory while embracing the possibility of a new beginning.

The polar bear embodies both the strength and vulnerability of nature, standing as a powerful reminder of ecosystems threatened by climate change. The raven—an ancient symbol in Northern mythology—becomes a guide, a witness, and a silent messenger, accompanying this timeless journey through a landscape where sea, ice, and sky dissolve into one ethereal space.

Layers of translucent blues, expressive charcoal marks, and rich oil textures evoke the vastness of the Arctic without depicting it literally, inviting the viewer into an emotional landscape where silence becomes the true protagonist.

Rather than portraying a place, Silent North speaks of resilience—the quiet determination to continue moving forward, even when the world behind has begun to disappear.
