Description from the seller
Antonio Soriano 1952, an autodidact Neapolitan painter with a strong impressionist instinct, aimed at carrying forward the noble Neapolitan school of painting.
Oil on canvas, hand-signed at the bottom left.
The subject is a young woman captured in three-quarter view, wearing a dark dress with a classic cut, enriched by a gold pendant on the ear and a necklace.
An excellent work on canvas, with evident attention to volumetric rendering; the deft use of whites and ochres lights up the skin and the details of the jewelry.
The stylistic setting reflects the taste of late nineteenth-century classical-inspired portraiture, a soft chiaroscuro envelops the features, gently separating the figure from the dark, neutral background.
