Rare early 19th‑century porcelain coffee set in Empire style, a Litron cup with coordinated saucer, likely Parisian manufacture (Dagoty or Paris) with cobalt blue ground and rich gilding, cup interior fully gilded and the saucer edge featuring blue and gold motifs, dimensions about 8 cm high and 9 cm wide, in good antique condition with minor wear to the gilding on the cup interior rim and wear to the central gilded circle on the saucer.
Description from the seller
Rare Tazza Litron and Porcelain Saucer, Empire Style - Probable Dagoty or Paris Manufacture, Early 19th Century
Description:
Auction presents a magnificent coffee set consisting of a cup (litron shape) and coordinated saucer, dating to the early 19th century (circa 1805-1815), firmly in the Empire period.
The Work:
This set embodies the elegance and opulence of French Empire style. The cup features the classic cylindrical litron form with a tall, C-scroll handle fully gilded, decorated with a rosette motif (visible in detail in image_2.png).
The decoration is of exceptional quality and complexity:
Cup (image_2.png): Deep cobalt blue ground enriched with rich gilding in palm frond and oak garland motifs on the base (detail in image_5.png). Horizontal and vertical bands enameled in green and pink surround central gilded medallions with geometric palm fronds. The interior is completely gilded, as shown in image_6.png.
Saucer (image_7.png): Faithfully reprises the cup motifs. The rim is decorated with alternating triangles in cobalt blue and gold, with gilded garlands and bouquets of colored flowers. A purple band with a white foliate motif surrounds the white center of the saucer, which features a worn gilded circle at the center.
Manufacture and Marks:
Although no factory marks are visible on the bottom of the cup (image_5.png) or the saucer (image_1.png), the porcelain quality, the litron form, the richness of the mercury gilding, and the refined decorative style strongly suggest a prestigious Parisian manufacture from the Empire period, such as Dagoty or Schoelcher.
Condition:
The set is in generally good antique condition, considering its age of over 200 years.
Cup: Attention! A thin hairline of wear on the inner gilded rim. The handle and the rest of the body are intact.
Saucer: Wear from rubbing on the gilding of the central circle, consistent with use. No chipping or restoration.
Please examine the detailed photos carefully for a full assessment of the preservation state.
