Avirex Limited men's brown suede leather B-3 style bomber jacket, size 48 (US XL/XXL), made in the United States, a vintage reproduction reflecting WWII Army Air Corps design with visible wear and signs of use.
Description from the seller
B-3 type bomber jacket (often simply called a heavy sheepskin aviator jacket). Introduced originally by the United States military aviation in the 1930s, it was designed specifically to keep warm the crews of bombers during flight in unpressurized, cold high-altitude cockpits. The entire interior, the collar, the waist and the cuffs are made of thick and fluffy sheep wool for maximum thermal insulation. Velcro closure: the two leather straps under the collar allow you to lift it and fasten it securely around the neck to protect against strong winds. Leather trim: the darker leather strips sewn along the seams are not just an aesthetic element, but reinforce the structure of the heavy sheepskin panels. The front oblique pockets were a practical addition to keep hands warm on the tarmac.
Looking at the label peeking near the collar (which bears a contract number), this is a high-quality vintage piece based on the original military specs from the WWII era, but this dating goes to earlier years of reproduction. They are timeless, incredibly durable and perfect for the harsh winter temperatures. CONTRACT 1978... AC-17755: The inscription "AC-177" visible on the label identifies the historic USAAF contract from 1941 (specifically AC-17755). High-end reproduction made by a brand specializing in historical items (such as The Few, Eastman Leather Clothing or Real McCoy's). These companies meticulously replicate the character, ink, leather texture and exact stitching of the 1941 Rough Wear contracts to offer enthusiasts a historically accurate jacket. Side adjustment buckles: at the lower right of the waist you can notice the sturdy brass buckle and strap, which allowed pilots to tighten the jacket to retain body heat. Brand: It was produced by Avirex Limited, based in New York. Avirex is incredibly famous for marketing and reproducing high-quality, authentic military aviation apparel. The small white tag indicates that this is a size 48, which corresponds to a men’s XL or XXL size in the United States: designed to be comfortable to wear under other garments.
