An original mixed media stencil painting by Cypriot artist CRS, created on a natural reclaimed wood slab. The artwork portrays a mother holding her child, inspired by the human stories of the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus, when thousands of families were forced to abandon their homes and become refugees in their own homeland.

The title, «Γίναμεν Πρόσφυγες.» (“We Became Refugees.”), is written in the Cypriot dialect, giving the work a deeply personal and authentic voice. It reflects not only the historical tragedy of displacement but also the enduring resilience, dignity, and hope carried by those who lost everything except their memories.

The natural grain, cracks, and irregular shape of the wood are intentionally preserved and incorporated into the composition. These features are not flaws but symbolic elements that echo the fractures left by war and the passage of time, making each piece entirely unique.
