The metal plaque is mounted on dark red velvet inside a gilded and carved wooden frame.
It is a Uruguayan commemorative medal from 1916 celebrating the 50th anniversary of the "Our Lady of the Orchard School" (Scuola Nostra Signora del Frutteto).
The medal is made of white metal or argentone and features a bas-relief of the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus, crowned.
The initials G D refer to the mark of the foundry or mint that actually minted or cast the piece; it was minted for the Catholic communities of the Río de la Plata.
