Kees Salentijn follows his training at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, Department of Free Painting. O.B. Kat is there his principal teacher. Salentijn studies paintings in the Prado in Madrid during his studies.
In the eighties, Salentijn traveled frequently to Spain. He feels connected in this period with artists of diverse movements, who to varying degrees advocate spontaneous unconscious creation and do not primarily pursue aesthetic representation.
He combines the cheerful Cobra visual language with the influences of Spanish culture.
