Description from the seller
Juan Carlos Rayas (Alicante, Spain) is a sculptor and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the Escuela de San Carlos in Valencia, completing his training at the Prague School of Art and Design. His artistic practice sits in the dialogue between the tradition of Arte Povera, eco-sculpture, and contemporary research on matter, understanding sculpture as a space from which to explore the relationships between nature, time and human experience.
Throughout his career he has developed his own language based on the combination of wood and stone, materials he uses to reflect on processes of transformation, regeneration and permanence. His works establish a balance between the organic and the mineral, the ephemeral and the lasting, turning elements marked by the passage of time into sculptures with an intense symbolic charge.
His career has been consolidated through his participation in international sculpture symposia in Spain and Mexico, as well as through numerous solo and group exhibitions in institutions, art centers, and galleries. Gradually, Rayas’s work has become established in the national art scene, being part of various private collections and present in public spaces through sculptures and permanent interventions.
His work proposes a reflection on the capacity of matter to adapt and the links between human beings and the landscape, developing a sculptural discourse of clear identity that connects with some of the main concerns of contemporary art.
