Artist biography:
Miguel Martínez Verchili was a renowned watercolorist, draftsman and Spanish illustrator born in Castellón and based in Valencia. He is considered one of the great Valencian watercolorists of the 20th century and the dean of Spanish watercolorists of his era.
He was born in Castellón in 1898 and died in Valencia in 1989.
He was a founding member of the Pont de Fusta artistic group and was part of the board of the Circle of Fine Arts of Valencia.
In 1987 he received the Gold Medal for Artistic Merit from the Circle of Fine Arts.
Besides painter and watercolorist, he worked as an illustrator and creator of comics.
He created the children's character Jaimito and collaborated with the Valencian satirical magazine La Traca before the Civil War.
His work focuses especially on:
Valencian landscapes
Seascapes
Rural scenes
Watercolors of great luminosity
He also produced some oils, though he is best known for his watercolors.
