Hendrick Goltzius (1558-1617), Attributed to - San Simón

Hendrick Goltzius (Bracht, near Venlo, 1558 - Haarlem, 1617) was a Dutch draftsman, printmaker, and painter. Considered the best engraver of the Netherlands of Northern Mannerism, he is recognized for his sophisticated technique and the “exuberance” of his compositions. According to A. Hyatt Mayor, Goltzius “was the last professional engraver who drew with the authority of a good painter and the last to invent many images for others to copy”.[1] In mature age he devoted himself to painting.
