Description from the seller
French Art Pottery Lidded Box – Rustic Woodland Design with Bird Motif
This charming French art pottery lidded box showcases a richly textured woodland-inspired design, combining sculpted tree stumps, bark details, and a delicately modelled bird perched on the lid. Its organic appearance and earthy green and brown glazes create a striking naturalistic composition, making it an attractive decorative object for collectors of studio ceramics and rustic French pottery.
Crafted in France during the 20th century, this unique ceramic piece reflects skilled hand-modelling and expressive glazing techniques. The highly textured surface enhances its sculptural character, while the removable lid reveals a practical interior suitable for small keepsakes or display. Measuring 14.5 cm (5.71 in) in height and approximately 15.9 cm (6.26 in) in diameter, it offers an impressive presence despite its compact size.
The piece is in fair vintage condition, displaying visible losses and chips to the glaze and ceramic body, as shown in the photographs. These imperfections are consistent with age and use and should be carefully reviewed before bidding. Despite these flaws, it retains strong decorative appeal and remains a distinctive example of French artistic pottery.
An evocative and uncommon decorative object, this woodland-themed ceramic box will appeal to collectors of French ceramics, rustic interiors, and nature-inspired studio pottery.
